Community and Support
Dedicated to Making the Community Safer for Everyone
At Meyerkord & Kurth, we take pride in working to make St. Louis a safer place for everyone in the community. Not only do we hold people accountable for causing accidents by filing personal injury and wrongful death claims on behalf of our clients, but we also contribute by donating to local charities. Our team owes its success to the members of our community who have trusted us to represent them in their time of need. If an accident has left you or a loved one with serious injuries, large medical bills, and out of work for an extended period, then we want to help you claim fair financial compensation and secure the justice you deserve.
Hosting a Cy Pres Ceremony for the Distribution of Funds to Those in Need
Recently, our firm hosted a Cy pres ceremony in honor of late Missouri Supreme Court Judge, Richard B. Teitleman. Cy pres is a French term, meaning "as near as," and refers to a situation where the court approves the distribution of leftover class action settlement funds that could not be distributed to all class members. In this case, $3.8 leftover funds were donated to local law schools in need and to Legal Services of Eastern Missouri (LSEM), where the late Judge Teitleman served as an executive director for decades. LSEM is a non-profit that provides legal services to low-income families. Meyerkord & Kurth was proud to host this special event and support the cause of bringing equal access to justice for all Americans.
Donation to the United Brachial Plexus Network
Our firm also recently donated $16,000 to the United Brachial Plexus Network (UBPN) to assist them with their summer camp, which is designed to support families affected by brachial plexus birth injuries. Some instances of brachial plexus birth injuries are caused by medical negligence, which is why UBPN is dedicated to raising awareness and improving education on this issue. As personal injury lawyers, we care about the impact that injury and illness makes on families, and here to help people endure such hardships.
Bicycle Helmet Donations to Cardinal Ritter College Prep
Another example of how we give back to the community, our firm recently donated 60 new bicycle helmets to Cardinal Ritter College Prep school with the goal of raising awareness about youth concussions. Brian injury and death are common results of bicycle accidents, and children are particularly at risk of being severely injured or killed while riding bikes. The high school students helped to "pay it forward" by distributing the helmets to young children between the ages of five and ten years old at St. Louis Catholic Academy, Most Holy Trinity, and Cathedral Grade School. This not only helped the children who received the helmets but also others who, after learning of the dangers, are more likely to wear such safety gear in an effort to avoid injuries while cycling.

How Tort Litigation Increases Safety
Our efforts to increase safety in the community are not limited to our charitable donations. When we represent accident victims and their families in personal injury claims, we are not only working to recover financial compensation for our client but also to hold the guilty party responsible for causing the accident. This is the essence of tort litigation. Everyone in society has a duty to take reasonable precaution to avoid causing accidents, and anyone who fails this duty can - and should - be held legally liable.
That is where we come in. For example, if our client has been injured in a slip and fall, then we can sue the property owner for failure to remove the hazards that caused the fall. Similarly, we can hold drivers accountable for texting behind the wheel or for drinking and driving, or sue doctors for negligence in practice.
If you have personally been injured or have lost a loved one as a result of another person's careless or reckless actions, then let us fight for you! Contact us online or call (800) 391-4318 today!
