A driver of a Jeep Laredo caused a serious accident and then fled the scene on foot. The accident happened around 9:37 p.m. Friday in Elgin, Illinois at the intersection of Seneca Street and Spring Street. The driver of the Jeep was traveling at an excessive speed on Seneca when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. A Chevy Suburban was traveling on Spring Street and attempting to cross the intersection when the vehicle collided with the Jeep. The forceful impact caused the Jeep to then strike a family in their parked Buick LeSabre and the Buick then hit two other parked vehicles that were unoccupied.
The driver and passenger of the Jeep were seen running from the scene of the accident before authorities arrived. Witnesses in the area helped the male driver of the LeSabre, a female passenger, and three children from the vehicle. The driver of the Suburban and the family in the LeSabre were all transported to the hospital for serious injuries. The Elgin Police Department is investigating the accident and encouraging witnesses to come forward with any information.
