A woman was seriously injured in a boating accident on Stockton Lake in Missouri. Last Thursday, two women from Roundlake Park, Illinois were enjoying the end of summer on a boat when an accident occurred. Shaylen C. Wright was being pulled on a tube by the boat when it collided with her in the water. The Missouri State Highway Patrol indicated that a 42-year-old female was operating the boat when the steering wheel was turned all the way to the left causing the boat to turn in a circle. Once the driver accelerated the boat, it struck Wright who was on a tube directly behind the boat. The accident happened at approximately 2:45 p.m. in Dade County near Arcola. Wright was airlifted to a Springfield, Missouri hospital and is in serious condition.
As summer draws to a close, boating accidents will also begin to decline. It is estimated that every year there are approximately 5,000 boating accidents, and a large portion of these accidents have serious and deadly results. Similar to auto accidents, without the proper training or responsible driving boating accidents can occur. Those who operate a boat recklessly or negligently should be held accountable for their actions.
