A teenage girl was killed in a hit and run accident last week in Missouri. The accident happened in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on Wednesday night. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 13-year-old girl was attempting to cross the street when she was struck by a vehicle and left for dead. The driver was operating a blue Volkswagen Beetle and immediately fled the scene of the accident. Authorities were able to locate the driver, a 42-year-old man from Poplar Bluff, and arrested him for suspicion of the hit and run accident.
Hit and run accidents are considered somewhat of an epidemic in urban areas. Pedestrian accidents are the most common type of accident in which a driver flees the scene of the accident. This is likely due to the minimal damage a vehicle sustains in a collision with a pedestrian. However, hit and run accidents involve many scenarios and cause victims to suffer damages. All drivers involved in a traffic accident are required to remain at the scene of the accident to exchange information, and drivers that commit the offense will face criminal charges. If you have suffered damages due to a hit and run accident, you should first seek the appropriate medical treatment and then contact a skilled hit and run accident attorney as soon as possible.
