An early Saturday morning auto accident claimed the life of a Des Peres man. According to the St. Louis Police Department, 46-year-old Steven McFadden was operating an SUV when he failed to stop at a stop sign at Manchester Avenue and Kingshighway. McFadden’s vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer at around 12:08 a.m. Both drivers were transported to the hospital after the crash, and unfortunately, McFadden was pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 27-year-old man, sustained unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation.
Auto accidents that involve tractor-trailers often result in serious injuries, severe property damages, and death. Drivers of tractor-trailers have a very important occupation. While it may seem that their job is to transport goods, it is also more importantly, to do so safely while protecting other motorists. There are rules and regulations that prevent commercial truck drivers from operating their vehicles for more than an allotted amount of time; however, many trucking companies and drivers disobey these rules in order to increase their profit. Fatigued driving, distracted driving, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol are some of the common causes of truck accidents. Mechanical defects and vehicle design flaws may also lead to an auto accident. Contact a tractor-trailer attorney to determine if the driver may be held responsible, as well as the trucking company, and truck manufacturer.
