Tragically a 5-year-old boy has died following a kayak accident in Newton County, Missouri. Furthermore, the drowning happened Saturday night in Shoal Creek when the kayak the boy was in hit a log and turned over. Although the young boy was wearing a life jacket, he somehow became pinned underneath the boat. Sadly, the boy died a short time later at a nearby Joplin hospital.
The boy’s tragic drowning has not been the only one that has occurred in the same creek last week. Friday, two Neosho, Missouri men died after one of them disappeared in the water, and the other tried to save him. Likewise, there has now been three drowning’s within two days which are all near Redings Mill.
