Sadly Saturday in Columbia, Missouri a man lost his life after a fatal crash with a semi. In addition, 24-year-old, John Seversten was a passenger in a vehicle, which rear-ended a semi truck on Paris Road. Seversten died at the accident scene, and was not wearing a seat belt. Furthermore, the driver of the semi was 35-year-old, Darrel McKnight, and prior to the crash, had slowed his truck to make a right turn onto a private drive. McKnight and his passenger were uninjured in the crash.
The driver of the car, which hit the back of the semi, was 30-year-old, Nicole Weddington, and was extracted from the vehicle after the crash. Weddington did suffer minor injuries, and was treated by a nearby hospital and released that evening. The accident occurred due to Weddington's inattentiveness, who didn't notice the slowed semi, and was unable to stop in time. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash on either party. An investigation is still ongoing.
