A 5-year-old child was severely injured on Wednesday when he was attacked by a dog. The incident occurred in Wood River, Illinois when the 40-pound boy was playing with a 120-pound mastiff. The attack was not witnessed, but the child was heard screaming and then found unconscious. Authorities arrived and the boy was breathing. The police then shot and killed the dog. The young boy was transported by air to the hospital and his condition is unknown.
Hospital statistics prove that there are approximately 1,000 individuals that require emergency medical care due to injuries sustained from a dog bite every day in the United States. The majority of those injuries are inflicted upon children. Not only does a dog attack bring physical damage, but it can also cause emotional damage. If you or a loved one has been involved in an attack by a dog, contacting a personal injury attorney is important in order to have the incident fully investigated. An attorney will also alleviate the stress of negotiating with insurance companies and will recover the maximum compensation for your case.
