Sadly two young lives have been taken too soon in a preventable accident following a fatal car crash in Los Angeles, California. In addition, the accident happened early in the morning on Monday when a driver was traveling on Atlantic Avenue and lost control of the vehicle. As a result the car spun out of control and hit a tree, jumped a curb, and then slid across a parking lot. A male and female passenger in the backseat died instantly in the crash. Neither was wearing a seatbelt. The female passenger has been identified as 18-year-old, Jennifer Velasquez, yet the male victim has not been identified.
The female driver and another female passenger who were in the front of the car both suffered only minor injuries, and will make a full recovery. Both the driver and front passenger were wearing seatbelts. According to witnesses, speed seemed to be the contributing factor in the crash. Tragically this is yet another story demonstrating that seatbelts can, in fact, save lives when used.
