An Illinois man was killed in an auto accident in Madison County on Wednesday evening. According to the Madison County Coroner’s Office, Maryville resident 68-year-old Steven Atteberry was operating his vehicle westbound on Interstate 270 at the time of the crash. For unknown reasons, Atteberry lost control of his vehicle and veered off the Interstate near the exit ramp for Route 157. The vehicle collided with a tree at around 4:30 p.m. and Atteberry was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The Illinois State Police are investigating the accident, and toxicology reports are pending.
