Pedestrian accidents claim the lives of thousands of individuals every year and driver negligence of often to blame. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourage all pedestrians to follow safety precautions to avoid an accident. Wearing reflective clothing, walking in well-lit areas, and walking on sidewalks and crosswalks when available will help protect a pedestrian from being struck by a vehicle. However, most pedestrian accidents are caused by reckless driving and can not be avoided by the pedestrian. Driving under the influence of alcohol, distracted driving, and inattentive driving are common causes of pedestrian accidents, and those drivers should be held accountable for the accident.
