Authorities are investigating a hit and run accident that was recorded on a police officer’s dash cam. The accident occurred in Palmyra, Pennsylvania on Wednesday when a woman was struck by a dark-colored, four-door Sedan while attempting to cross East Cherry Street. After the collision, the driver of the vehicle fled from the scene of the accident. Prior to the driver leaving the scene, a police officer’s dash cam captured the man standing over the victim wearing a black shirt and jeans. Witnesses told police that the vehicle had significant damage to the windshield, and the driver’s side airbag had deployed. The woman was transported to the hospital for life-threatening injuries. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to contact police.
Hit and run accidents have become a regular occurrence, especially in urban areas. Pedestrian accidents are the most common type of hit and run accident because it is easier to drive away from an injured individual than a collision with another vehicle. State laws require any individual involved in a car accident to remain at the scene and provide information. While a driver that causes a hit and run accident may face criminal charges, they should also be held accountable for the victim's damages.
