Investigators in Florida are attempting to determine the cause of a train accident that has claimed the life of a man. According to authorities, two men were walking along railroad tracks on a trestle when one of the men was struck and killed by a train. The accident occurred in Melbourne on Tuesday evening. Dan Lynch, the Melbourne Police Commander, stated that the man killed was in his 40s and his identity will be released once the family is notified. As the train approached the two men, one man jumped into the Crane Creek below and was rescued. Lynch says that he cannot stress the danger of walking on trestles and wants to remind everyone that it is a misdemeanor crime. A few years ago, some kids were walking in the same area when they were also struck and killed by on oncoming train. The accident is under investigation.
The results of railroad accidents are rarely anything but deadly. The weight, speed, and size of a train creates an impact that is devastating. While railroad accidents can be caused by the recklessness of the pedestrian or motorist, they can also be caused by the negligence of the train conductor, operators, or the railroad company. Many railroad accidents occur at railroad crossings due to the lack of warning signals and devices. If you have been injured, or lost a loved one, in a railroad accident, you may be entitled to compensation for your damages.
