A truck accident on the New Jersey Turnpike Wednesday afternoon resulted in the death of the driver. According to authorities, several mattresses and box springs had fallen from a vehicle and landed on the roadway. Traffic had slowed due to the lane blockage and at approximately 3:15 p.m., a tanker truck struck a Honda CRV. The collision caused the truck to flip over a guardrail, land on its’ side and burst into flames. The fire was extinguished about two hours after the crash. The truck driver was killed in the accident, and the driver of the Honda was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
Truck accidents typically result in serious injuries, severe damage, and fatalities. One of the main reasons for the severity is due to the weight and size of the truck. Commercial trucks can weigh up to 80,000 pounds and when traveling at 65 mph can lead to a deadly collision. Similar to other types of auto accidents, common causes are dangerous roadways, lack of vehicle maintenance, and driver negligence. One of the most common causes of commercial trucking accidents is fatigued driving. If you have been injured or lost a loved one in a truck accident, it is necessary to understand your rights for recovering compensation.
