A single mother of three was killed on Thursday night when she was struck along the roadway by a drunk driver. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department reported that 27-year-old Samantha Miller was traveling along Interstate 55/70 with her three children ages three, six, and eight when she began to experience problems with her vehicle. At approximately 8 p.m., Miller pulled the vehicle onto the shoulder of the Interstate, exited the vehicle, and was struck by a pickup truck. The truck also collided with the vehicle containing the children. The driver of the truck, 38-year-old Steven Willis, was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested by the Illinois State Police. If he is convicted, he could serve up to 10 years in prison. Miller was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and her children were transported by ambulance to area hospitals. Their current condition is unknown.
