The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a motorcycle accident that killed one individual and seriously injured another. The accident occurred on Monday afternoon when 60-year-old Daniel Bohnstedt was operating a motorcycle on I-44 when he attempted to avoid a collision with a tractor-trailer. He was successful in avoiding the collision, but unfortunately, crashed the bike near LaRussel, Missouri. The motorcycle slid across the roadway and overturned, ejecting Daniel and his passenger, 68-year-old Linda Bohnstedt. Linda was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and Daniel was transported to the hospital where he remains in serious condition. The Patrol stated that both riders were wearing their helmets, and the accident is under investigation.
Motorcyclists are at risk of being seriously injured or killed in the event of an accident. The lack of protection offered by the vehicle, as well as their size, creates severe results in motorcycle accidents. Motorcycle accidents involving other motor vehicles are often caused by the negligence of the other driver. It can be difficult to see a motorcyclist due to their smaller size, especially in blind spots. This reason, as well as many others, is a prime example of why drivers must devote their full attention to their surroundings and the roadway. If you have been injured in a motorcycle accident, it is important to contact an experienced St. Louis motorcycle accident lawyer.
