On Saturday morning two car accidents occurred on Interstate 100 that shut down both directions until the late afternoon. The accident happened in Old Lyme, Connecticut around 6 am. When the responding emergency department arrived on the scene they discovered at least one person had died. In total five cars and two tractor trailers were involved in the accident.
The other accident on the southbound lane happened when a tractor trailer caught on fire after hitting a guardrail. This driver was immediately taken to the Yale-New Haven Hospital. The accident caused large amounts of diesel and oil to be dumped on the highway.
