A young man was killed in a work-related accident on Wednesday afternoon. The accident happened in Swansea, Illinois when an 18-year-old employee of a lawn care company was operating a mower to cut the grass near a lake. His coworker hadn’t seen the victim for several hours and decided to check on him. The coworker discovered the teen in the lake, pinned underneath the overturned lawnmower. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at approximately 3:40 p.m. Local authorities are investigating the accident.
Workplace accidents claim the lives of thousands of workers every year, and tens of thousands more are injured. Sustaining a serious injury that can prevent an individual from working can be stressful and cause a financial burden for the injured worker. In Missouri, companies that employ five or more workers are required to carry worker’s compensation insurance. The coverage provided by the insurance has its flaws. While the benefits provide medical coverage for the employee, the lost wages are only replaced at a rate of 66.6% of the worker’s average weekly rate. Most individuals rely on 100% of their income, and the deficit can leave them struggling. To recover the compensation you deserve, it is necessary to contact a skilled St. Louis worker’s compensation attorney.
