A parent’s worst nightmare became a reality on Saturday night for a family in St. Louis County when a pedestrian accident claimed the life of their child. The accident happened around 7 p.m. in front of the Elaine Rosi Academy. The young girl was walking across the street when she was struck by a car near Shepard Road and Missouri 109. An ambulance rushed the child to the hospital where she died from the injuries she suffered. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities while an investigation is being conducted. Authorities have not yet charged the driver and it is unknown if charges are expected.
Children are killed in pedestrian accidents numerous of times a year and that is often due to their size. In fact, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that in 2014 there were 167 children under the age of 13 that lost their lives in pedestrian accidents. Distracted driving and DUI are the leading causes of pedestrian accidents and those who are responsible should be held accountable. Losing a child has to be the most tragic event a person can experience and while there is no amount of money that will ease the pain of that loss, you could be owed compensation for funeral costs, medical bills, and other non-economical damages.
