Yesterday, an Arkansas woman was sentenced to 22 years in prison for a 2013 drunk-driving accident that injured three people on Halloween night. The woman was driving drunk when she hit three pedestrians on Hot Springs Street on October 31, 2013. She was five months pregnant at the time, her blood-alcohol-level was twice the legal limit, and she had her three children in the car at the time of the accident. Her three children were unharmed. The pedestrians suffered major injuries. The woman pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated assault and two counts of 2nd-degree battery. She was sentenced to a total of 22 years for all charges and has to serve them consecutively. Her license was suspended, and she will also pay a $1,000.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over a hundred thousand people are treated for pedestrian-related injuries every year. The CDC also reports that pedestrians were most injured by motorists at night at non-intersection areas.
