An Illinois family is homeless and sustained serious property damage after the roof of their rental home collapsed during last week's heavy rains. The Granite family of six claims the accidents is the fault of a negligent landlord. The family claims they complained of the leaky roof for six months before the landlord began working on it. Crews started the roof repair on August 12 but did not finish the work in time for the heavy rains and left the roof uncovered. The ceiling collapsed and left a husband and wife along with a grandmother and three young children in the home with a gaping hole in their ceiling. The family claims almost everything they owned was soaked with the rainfall including all their furniture, electronics, pictures and irreplaceable keepsakes. Now the family has nowhere to go and is already struggle financially. After the homeless family spoke out to the public, the landlord has agreed to find a place for the family while repairs are being made.
