A 20-year-old Rhode Island man was involved in a high-speed accident while live streaming his joy ride on Facebook. At times he was well over 100 miles per hour while weaving in and out of traffic in a congested area in Providence. The man was filming the speedometer while changing lanes, driving recklessly and speeding before the video cuts out and he slams into a garbage truck at 90 miles per hour. Rhode Island State Police reported that the car was destroyed and it took a while to cut him out. He was brought to a local hospital with critical injuries but has since been moved to fair condition. He is being charged with speeding, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. This is his third accident this year.
This driver knowingly put hundreds of other drivers at risk by driving recklessly through busy areas with little to no concern. Luckily he did not injure anyone, but that isn’t always the case. It is estimated that speeding-related crashes cost the U.S. $27.7 billion each year. That is a scary number for those who depend on vehicles to travel each day. Injuries sustained in speed-related crashes can be serious and life altering. Accident victims can be hit with outrageous medical bills, physical therapy needs, counseling, and even home improvements to accommodate easier access for the injured. To top it off, many victims are faced with lost wages from work due to their injuries. Contacting a personal injury attorney can ease your mind when you’ve been in an accident. A personal injury attorney can help hold the negligent driver responsible for your injuries and help you receive the compensation you deserve.
