Authorities are still searching for two pit bulls who are responsible for a vicious animal attack. According to the San Diego Humane Society, two pit bulls are responsible for mauling a family horse to death over the weekend. Authorities have still not been able to locate the animals days after the attack. Officials say the dog attack happened this past Saturday around 9 p.m. in the Woodland Parkway area. A resident heard the attack located just off Fulton Road in San Marcos.
The resident said the dogs viciously attacked their beloved horse, Smokey, despite his attempts to beat the dogs off. The horse died from injuries sustained in the assault. The horrific scene was devastating for the family. Neighbors gathered to support the family after the tragic and preventable attack. The horse was a beloved animal of many and was an extra in many films such as Back to the Future 3.
The dogs were tracked to their owner using a microchip. The owner was contacted and came to pick up the dog from the San Diego Humane Society. The dogs have since escaped and are now on the loose. The community is extremely concerned that the dogs are loose again and are frustrate over the negligence of officials and the dogs’ owner. A spokesperson for the San Diego Humane Society said officers are searching for the dogs. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the dogs are asked to call the San Diego Humane Society’s Humane Law Enforcement division.
