Playworld Systems Inc., the manufacturer of stainless steel playground slides, has recalled around 1,300 slides due to amputation hazards. The company reported that two children had suffered finger amputations due to the defect product with 13 incidents of broken welds on the slides. The product is being recalled due to broken welds that hold the sidewalls and the bedway together on the slide. These welds can crack and separate which can catch children’s fingers and pose an amputation hazard for them. The company advises customers to stop using the slides and contact the company directly for a free replacement and free installation for the slide. They will also ship a temporary barrier to prevent children from using the defective product until the new one is put in place. The company is also contacting consumers who have purchased the slides directly. These were sold by independent distributors to parks, municipalities, and schools from November 2000 through October 2016.
