Hazardous and slick road conditions hampered drivers in Indiana and Illinois, especially Interstate 70 in Putnam County, Indiana, where multiple car crashes closed the westbound lanes. It was reported that one crash involved at least 14 vehicles and another accident involved a semi-truck that jackknifed in the westbound lanes. Illinois State Police have reported hazardous conditions on three major interstates and many accidents have been reported due to black ice on overpasses, ramps, and shaded areas. All law enforcement agencies were urging motorists to check road conditions, slow down when driving and expect delays.
Winter weather can often hamper travel due to snow, sleet, freezing rain, and ice. These conditions can cause low visibility, reduced stop time, black ice and sliding. This means the chance of being involved in a vehicle accident increase during this time. There are at least 1,200,000 weather-related crashes each year in the U.S. ranging from slide-offs to serious vehicle accidents. Injuries sustained in these accidents can be frightening not to mention severe. Is your insurance up-to-date?
