On Tuesday afternoon, a test drive turned into a fatal auto accident in Ontario, California. According to authorities, a 28-year-old male went to a CarMax located at 4100 Inland Empire Blvd. to test drive a vehicle. During the drive, he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree at approximately 12:45 p.m. Tragically, a 43-year-old car salesman was a passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver was arrested following the accident on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. Police are investigating the accident and do not believe alcohol to be a factor, but are attempting to determine if the driver was under the influence of drugs.
Every year it is estimated that there are 37,000 people killed in traffic accidents in the United States, according to the Association for Safe International Road Travel. Losing a loved one is one of the most devastating events a person can experience. Especially when that death was caused by negligent actions of another party resulting in a preventable accident. Some examples of causes of auto accidents due to negligence include reckless driving, dangerous roadways, mechanical defects, and vehicle design flaws.
