On Friday, a hit and run accident occurred in Tulsa, Oklahoma where the driver of one of the vehicle’s involved fled the scene. The driver was operating a small white car and sped away from the scene at speeds near 80 mph. As the car approached the intersection of 54th and Lewis, he collided with a red pickup truck. Authorities pronounced the driver of the truck dead at the scene, and a passenger was transported to the hospital in serious condition. The driver of the white car attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended. The driver is expected to be charged in connection with both accidents.
Hit and run accidents have become an epidemic in some urban areas. Traffic laws require all motorists involved in an auto accident to remain at the scene to exchange information with the other individuals involved or until authorities arrive. However, this law is being disobeyed by thousands of drivers every year resulting in numerous hit and run accidents. Attempting to negotiate with an insurance company to recover compensation for your damages could be difficult if the at-fault driver’s identity is unknown.
