A tractor-trailer accident in Illinois injured an elderly man on Wednesday. The accident happened in Peoria when the 84-year-old man was operating his vehicle on Fifth Street when he attempted to turn onto Ann Eliza Street. His vehicle crossed in front of a tractor-trailer that struck the man’s vehicle. The collision caused the vehicle to overturn and pushed it into a dumpster. The driver had to be extracted by firefighters and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Fortunately, he survived the accident and is listed in good condition. The truck driver did not suffer any injuries. Police are investigating the accident.
Tractor-trailer accidents occur thousands of times a year and a vast majority of these accidents, like all auto accidents, are preventable. Speeding, distracted driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and fatigued driving are the most common causes of truck accidents placing the blame on the truck driver. However, dangerous roadways and vehicular defects can also contribute to a crash. If you or a loved one have suffered damages in a tractor-trailer accident, you could be entitled to compensation for your medical expenses, lost wages if time from work was required, property damages, and mental anguish.
