A hit and run accident claimed the life of a man in southeast Houston on Saturday. According to police, a 22-year-old man was walking west on Van Fleet near the 5900 block. At approximately 8:30 p.m., a vehicle struck the man and fled from the scene of the accident. Tragically, paramedics transported the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Houston Police Department is investigating the accident and is searching for the driver responsible for the accident.
Hit and run accidents occur approximately 575,000 times a year and have drastically increased over the past ten years. Pedestrian accidents often result in a hit and run accident due to the vehicle suffering the least amount of damage compared to a collision with another vehicle. Many drivers flee the scene to avoid criminal and financial consequences. If you find yourself a victim of a hit and run accident, you should first seek the appropriate medical attention and then contact the authorities to fully investigate the accident. Any information regarding the driver and the vehicle that fled the scene should be documented in the police report as well as all witness information. While individuals are often entitled to compensation for damages they suffer in auto accidents, receiving compensation in a hit and run accident can be challenging.
