The eastbound lanes of Interstate 26 in North Carolina were closed for several hours after a fatal tractor-trailer accident. Authorities were working to clear debris and reconstruct the accident on Thursday. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the tractor-trailer was operated by a 52-year-old male driver when he lost control of the truck, veered off the roadway striking a guardrail and overturned at approximately 2:15 a.m. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash despite wearing his seatbelt. Authorities do not believe speed, alcohol or weather conditions were factors in the accident and are working to determine what led to the crash.
Tractor-trailers are one of the largest vehicles on the roadways and when an auto accident occurs the results are devastating. Similar to all auto accidents there are a variety of factors that can lead to the cause of the crash and negligence is often to blame. Determining the liable party requires a thorough investigation and more than one party could be responsible. The tractor-trailer accident could be caused by reckless driving, defects with the truck, or violations of the trucking company.
