On Tuesday morning, a tractor-trailer accident resulted in two individuals suffering injuries. The accident happened at around 5:15 a.m. in Collinsville, Illinois. According to authorities, the driver of the truck either lost control or was speeding when he attempted to maneuver the ramp for Interstate 255 at Interstate 55/70 causing the vehicle to overturn and land on its side. Emergency crews had to extricate two individuals from the cab of the tractor-trailer and the severity of their injuries is unknown. However, they were seen walking at the scene of the accident and it appears they did not suffer life-threatening injuries. Authorities closed the ramp while they conducted their investigation.
Auto accidents involving commercial trucks can result in severe damages, serious injuries, and death. Tractor-trailers can weigh up to 80,000 pounds and when that weight is combined with traveling at a speed of around 60 mph, the impact can be catastrophic. Distracted driving, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, fatigued driving, mechanical defects, dangerous roadways, and vehicular design flaws, are all examples of neglect that can cause a tractor-trailer accident.
