A Missouri truck driver has been cited after a tractor-trailer accident injured a man. The accident happened on Thursday near Hubbard Township, Ohio. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 23-year-old Stev’vahn Woodruff, a Springfield resident, was operating a 2016 Freightliner when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic. As Woodruff turned left onto an Interstate 80 onramp, he drove into the path of a Jeep being driven by 22-year-old Zachary Sharpnack. Sharpnack was transported to the hospital for injuries that are believed to be minor. Woodruff and a passenger in the truck were uninjured in the crash. Police cited Woodruff with failure to yield.
One of the leading causes of tractor-trailer accidents is negligent driving. Individuals that pursue a truck driving occupation are required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License, commonly known as a CDL. During the classes required for a CDL, driver’s are educated on the responsibilities of operating a commercial truck, as well as the traffic laws pertaining to tractor-trailers. One law prohibits drivers from operating their truck for more than 70 hours within a period of eight consecutive driving days. However, many trucking companies and drivers disobey this traffic law in order to increase their profit, which is ultimately putting lives at risk. Truck drivers have a reputation of becoming tired and continuing to operate their vehicle. Truck accidents caused by fatigued driving are tragic because they could have been prevented. If you have been injured in a tractor-trailer accident, you could be entitled to compensation for your damages.
