A woman responsible for a fatal DUI accident has been sentenced to serve three years in prison. The accident happened in St. Louis County in 2014 when a 27-year-old was operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol the wrong way on Interstate 44. She collided head-on with another vehicle driven by a 22-year-old woman who succumbed to her injuries two days after the crash. According to investigators, the at-fault driver had a blood-alcohol level that was three times the legal limit and on Friday, she pleaded guilty to the charge of involuntary manslaughter resulting in a three-year sentence.
There are many forms of reckless driving, and one of the most destructive examples is that of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Each day hundreds of DUI accidents occur resulting in individuals suffering injuries every two minutes and 28 victims losing their lives, according to Mother’s Against Drunk Driving. DUI accidents alter the lives of victims and their families entitling them to compensation for their damages. If you have sustained damages or lost a loved one in a DUI accident, you may deserve compensation for medical bills, funeral expenses, loss of economic support, property damages, and mental anguish.
