A toddler was killed in a violent auto crash in St. Louis City. According to St. Louis Police, the fatal accident occurred on the Missouri side of a downtown St. Louis bridge at approximately 11:05 p.m. on Sunday at Tucker and Cass. According to investigators with the St. Louis Police Department, a 2006 Hummer H3 and a Mercedes Benz crashed, causing one to roll onto its side near the entrance of the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge. The northbound Hummer traveling on Tucker was struck by a northbound Mercedes Benz when it crossed over into the lane near Cass. The Hummer then crashed into a concrete median and flipped onto its side.
A witness spoke to a news reporter and said he heard the crash as he was changing his tire and rushed to help. Tragically, a toddler was trapped under the Hummer. Several people were able to reach the little girl, but she was already deceased. The child was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police report a female passenger of Hummer was also taken to the hospital for non-serious injuries and was in extreme distress due to the condition of the toddler. The driver and passenger in the Mercedes were not injured. Police could not confirm if the toddler was secured in the child seat in the Hummer at the time of the crash. The tragic accident is still under investigation.
