The pedestrian accident occurred in the 1600 block of Olive Street on Friday, July 15, around 10:30 p.m. Police say the child was crossing south to north on Olive at 18th Street with her mother, when she ran from behind her mother in the middle of the street and was struck by a vehicle. According to investigators, the driver who struck the child briefly stopped and exited the vehicle. Then he quickly got back into his vehicle and drove west on Olive with four other passengers inside. Officers stopped the vehicle at 20th and Olive, but no one was detained. Many residents say the intersection is dangerous and others have been struck. Many are concerned nothing is being done to make the intersection safer.
