A New York man is dead after a crash during a drag-race in Illinois. According to authorities, the 49-year-old man was driving a mud-racing drag car at the fairgrounds in Carlinville. His drag car went off the track and struck a tractor Thursday night around 9:25 p.m. The Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office along with the Shipman and Fire Rescue responded to the crash and attempted to extricate the man from the drag car. The man was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where upon arrival he was pronounced deceased by a County Coroner. The President of the Macoupin County Fair & Agricultural Association Brandon Oxley expressed his deepest sympathies to the family of the departed on Friday afternoon. The accident will remain under investigation. No one else was injured in the fatal accident.
