A tractor-trailer truck accident caused a major highway spill in the greater St. Louis area today. A tractor-trailer overturned on westbound Interstate 64 in East St. Louis, closing the interstate for several hours. The accident occurred just after 3:00 when a semi overturned on a median near the 25th Street exit in East St. Louis. The interstate reopened just before 6:00 p.m. The tractor-trailer was transporting a whitish liquid that spilled all over the interstate during the accident. Clair County hazmat unit concluded the liquid was a flooring compound and is not dangerous. Authorities say the truck driver suffered noncritical injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The accident remains under investigation by authorities.
