Yesterday, a woman was arrested in New Jersey for a fatal hit and run auto accident. According to the Fort Lee Police Department, the fatal accident occurred Sunday night at approximately 8:48 p.m, when a Fort Lee man was struck and killed by a 2011 Hyundai Sonata in a hit and run accident. The 86-year-old man was crossing Lemoine Avenue at Whiteman Street when he was struck. The car then left the scene of the fatal crash. The man was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center by emergency responders and was later pronounced dead. According to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, a 25-year-old woman was charged with vehicular homicide and issued summonses for operating a motor vehicle with an open alcoholic beverage container, driving under the influence and reckless driving.
The Fort Lee Police Department reported that the woman was driving under the influence of alcohol when she struck the elderly man. She was arraigned this past Monday and remains in the Bergen County Jail Annex. Bail is set at $150,000.
