A man was killed in a fatal motorcycle accident Tuesday night after being struck by a car, at the corner of Forest Avenue and White Oak Street. Independence Police reports the northbound motorcyclist collided with a westbound vehicle making a left turn from White Oak Street. The motorcyclist died at the hospital from injuries suffered in the crash. His name has not released by police. The driver of the car was a woman and did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. No charges have been filed.
According to MoDOT, 261 motorcyclists died on Missouri roads between 2012 - 2014. Those who are between the ages of 15 - 30 make almost 30% of those killed. Motorcyclists are vulnerable on the roads and their injuries can be far more severe. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration continually asks drivers to “share the road.” The NHAT also urges Motorcyclists to make themselves visible to other motorists.
