An Indiana high school basketball team suffered a dangerous school bus accident that injured every player. The bus carrying the Griffith High School's boys basketball team overturned on I-65 near DeMotte this past Monday. The bus was sideswiped by another vehicle, causing the bus to lose control and overturn. Authorities say the driver of the other vehicle lost control of her car after spilling her drink. The 21 students all suffered non-life threatening injuries and were treated at the hospital.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, from 2004 to 2013 there were 340,039 fatal motor vehicle traffic crashes. Of those, 1,214 (0.4%) were classified as school-transportation-related. This is an average of 134 fatalities per year in school buses or other school-transportation-related. Many school-transportation-related accidents are caused by the recklessness and negligence of another vehicle driver.
