It is believed that one of Google’s self-operating vehicles may have caused an accident for the first time. The report of the incident states that one of Google’s self-driving Lexus SUVs caused a collision with a bus. Allegedly, the vehicle was driving in an autonomous mode on El Camino Real in Mountain View when the Google AV test driver saw a bus behind the vehicle in the mirror. The vehicle was maneuvering around sand bags set over a storm drain on the road, and it was assumed that the bus would stop in order to let the Google AV to keep on driving. However, both the bus and the car continued on, and therefore the Google AV collided with the side of the bus. At the time of the collision, the bus was traveling about 15 miles per hour and the car was traveling at about 2 miles per hour.
