A pedestrian accident took place on the evening of April 30 in the Central West End. Police officials report a 40-year-old man was struck while walking south on Martin Luther King Drive near Kingshighway by a Ford F1-50. Witnesses say the F-150 then left the scene leaving the man. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. Police are still looking for the driver of the F-150. This was the second pedestrian struck this weekend in the Central West End, and both were hit-and-runs.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that one in five pedestrians killed were killed in a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash. According to Missouri state law, it is a punishable crime for the driver of a vehicle to flee the scene of an accident. Drivers are required to exchange information and provide help if necessary.
