A 15-year-old suffered severe injuries when he and his brother were attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull dog in Biloxi, Mississippi. The teen and his five-year-old brother were playing in their front yard when the dog attacked the boys. Both were taken to separate hospitals, and the teen was airlifted to a local university trauma center. The five-year-old was released while the teen boy is in stable condition. The authorities reported that the investigation is ongoing, but they do not suspect any malicious intent.
It is estimated that 1,000 people are treated each day for dog bite injuries, and this does not include those that treat their wounds at home. Alarmingly, the CDC reports that there are more than 4.7 million incidents a year involving dog bites. Children and elderly individuals are the most common victims of dog attacks. An average everyday situation can turn dangerous in a matter of seconds. It is wise to remind children never to approach a strange dog, a dog that is agitated or any animal that you do not know. If you are ever attacked, seek medical attention immediately, if your injuries are serious. Always contact a personal injury attorney to assess your legal options. Medical bills can easily add up, and it is important to discuss your options to achieve maximum compensation from the party responsible.
