Authorities say the Baltimore bus crash was one of the most horrific traffic accidents, leaving six dead at the scene and sending ten people to the hospital. Officials have released the identities of those that were injured in Tuesday's crash and say their injuries range from minor to critical. Among those injured were a 40-year-old man in critical condition, a 29-year-old woman who suffered serious injuries, a 38-year-old woman who suffered minor injuries, a 25-year-old woman who suffered minor injuries, a 32-year-old woman who suffered minor injuries, a 23-year-old woman who suffered minor injuries, a 29-year-old woman in critical condition, a 36-year-old man who suffered minor injuries and a 52-year-old man who suffered minor injuries.
NTSB officials say they will be on the scene for the rest of the week. Authorities called it a grueling and gruesome process of removing bodies and working through the wreckage. Homicide investigators were used at the scene of the accident due to the mass casualty situation that involved multiple deaths at one scene. A Baltimore Police spokesperson said additional personnel was called to support crash scene investigation. The team of investigators will continue to gather factual information to determine the cause of the crash. They also aim to uncover information, if any, that will prevent future traffic crashes and fatalities.
An MTA spokesperson confirmed the death 33-year-old bus driver. Baltimore City Schools also released a statement confirming that the 67-year-old school bus driver who died in the crash was a contract worker with a transportation vendor. Police are considering the cause of the crash was due to a medical emergency suffered by the school bus driver. There is no evidence that the bus tried to brake before hitting the car and the MTA bus, according to investigators.
