Drowsy driving is extremely dangerous, as it takes place when a driver operates a vehicle while fatigued. Even if a driver does not fall asleep at the wheel due to exhaustion, drowsiness can still affect a driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. For example, a drowsy driver is more likely to not have their full focus on the road, drift out of their lane of traffic, and have a slower reaction time. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drowsy driving caused about 72,000 vehicle accidents in 2013. If you or another driver finds themselves fatigued while operating a vehicle, take a break from driving to rest or find a different driver to operate the vehicle.
