Three people are dead and seven others were injured after a tragic hayride accident in Newton County, Mississippi. The hayride accident happened on the evening of Halloween just before 8 p.m. on Highway 80 in Chunky. The Mississippi Highway Patrol says a Jeep was pulling a trailer with several hayride passengers when it was rear-ended by a Ford F-150. A mother and her two daughters were killed in the crash. Seven other adults and children were injured. MHP says the 58-year-old Jeep driver was unharmed and the 20-year-old Ford F-150 driver were uninjured.
A 33-year-old mother and her two young daughters, 8-years-old and 2-years-old, were killed in the crash. The accident has shaken the small town of Chunky. The mother has a third daughter, who survived the accident, and is currently in the hospital. Six others are also recovering in hospitals in Jackson and Meridian. Families of the victims say the surviving daughter lost her father last year and now her mother and two sisters in this tragic accident. A prayer vigil will be held for the victims in Chunky over the weekend. According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the investigation continues as to what led to the accident. Police have not made any charges at this time, and it is unclear if speeding or alcohol played a role in the crash.
