Cabela’s, the popular sporting goods and outdoors store, is recalling around 3,000 commercial food dehydrators due to defective wiring. Cabela’s states that this can cause a build-up of heat and can pose a fire hazard. They have received nine reports of malfunctions with these units. There are two units being recalled, the 80 liters and the 160 liters. Consumers who have bought either of these dehydrators should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact the company directly to have them replaced or a given a refund. The dehydrators were sold nationwide at their stores and online at Cabelas.com.
There are thousands of injuries each year in the US due to defective or dangerous products. Often these can be due to design or manufacturing flaws, but companies are not aware until the product injures someone. Product liability laws help protect consumers from these products by holding the manufacturer or seller responsible. It is up to each of these entities to make products safe and reliable for all consumers. If their products are not safe, they are responsible for correcting the issue whether it is replacing the damaged or defective product or a refund.
