The mother of two of the three children hit by an SUV while waiting for their school bus says the bus stop was at a dangerous location and she tried to tell the school. The mother’s children, a 9-year-old and a 10-year-old, were among the three that were struck by an SUV while waiting at a bus stop in Louisville. The mother is speaking out about the bus stop being too dangerous, and she had tried to ask the school to change its location. The mother says her complaints were ignored and her worst nightmare has come true.
According to the family, both children are struggling in the hospital after the accident. The mother says her 9-year-old daughter is in a medically induced coma and still in intensive care unit. The long-term results of her injuries are still unknown. Her 10-year-old son sustained multiple injuries including broken bones. A third child whose identity has not been released was also injured in the crash and is listed in serious condition.
Officials at the Jefferson County Public Schools said they were not notified of any issues with this bus stop before. The family thanked the community for support and had set up a go fund me page to help the growing medical expenses. The driver of the SUV was also injured and is said to have a serious spinal cord injury. He stayed at the scene and says he is terribly sorry for the damages he caused, saying it was a tragic accident.
