A fatal vehicle accident recently occurred in Upland. Allegedly, the crash was a result of a Chevy HHR Supersport traveling at a high rate of speed, losing control, and colliding with a tree. A witness in the area stated that the driver could have been involved in street racing. Apparently, the Chevy was seen racing a Camaro, but the other vehicle involved in the race has not been found. Additionally, police have reported that alcohol could have been a contributing factor to the accident. The Chevy was found wrapped around a tree.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 804 fatalities occurred from 2001 to 2006 as a result of crashes in which racing was involved. Racing on public roads is both illegal and extremely dangerous, as traveling at a high rate of speed often leads to the loss of vehicle control and crashes.
