A train accident occurred at a Hoboken train station in New York on Thursday morning. The accident took place when a New Jersey Transit train crashed through its ending point. Instead of stopping 10-20 feet before reaching the bumper block, the train continued to drive through a passenger gathering area, becoming airborne. The accident was fatal, tragically killing at least one person and hurting so many others. There are around 75 people known to be injured as a result of the accident. Passengers of the train were surrounded by debris, as the crash caused heavy structural damage to both the station and the train. The train was very full, as the incident occurred at the time of the morning rush-hour commute.
New Jersey officials have been progressing in making traveling by train safer, but this accident shows that there are still safety measures that need to be taken, as more than 15,000 people ride the Hoboken train station every day of the week. According to the Department of Transportation and the Federal Railroad Administration, more than 2,500 train accidents occur annually.
